Here at Supertouch, we leave the streetwear reporting to the streetwear blogs, but after seeing the debut collection from upstart fashion brand KAZUO we just had to drop a dime. Founded in Little Tokyo in downtown LA in 2007 with a street date of Spring 2008 for their premiere, the company filters classic forms and styles (sorry, no allover prints or size XXL here) through their Tokyo-based design team's innovative eyes, rendering iconic garments in top quality fabrics accented with modern details like radically engineered seams and hidden iPod pockets and headphone leads, and fabricating them with a couturier’s attention to detail right down to the immaculately tailored seams. Aiming to bring a refined, high-end Japanese street sensibility to the US market with comparable fit and finish in sizes that fashionista gaijin can actually fit into (tall, skinny, rocker gaijin, that is), Kazuo has managed to do so at pricepoints that are surprisingly uninflated with a product that looks like its rightful home is on a rack at Paul Smith or Comme des Garçons. LA scenesters wanting to get a closer look can swing by hipster fashion hotspot BARRACUDA (7600 Melrose) this Friday nite at 7pm for the label's kickoff party & sample showcase. You've been warned...
