Japanese facials are still the best...

Just when you thought things couldn’t get any weirder in Tokyo, multimedia artist GO WATANABE unveils his latest series, “Face,” at ARATANI URANO GALLERY in the city’s futuristic Ginza district. Made by overlaying the image of a real person's face & skin onto a 3D facial substructure that he has created on a computer, printing it out on semi-transparent film and then mounting them onto light boxes, these hyperdetailed works confront the viewer with a strong sense of alien unease and superhuman uniformity. Watanabe’s young women who stare out with their large doll-like eyes, completely devoid of individuality and bathed in pure white light seem to speak volumes about the undercurrent of homogeneity (both perceived and real) in modern Japanese society and the youth culture’s struggle for individual identity. That, or Watanabe's just busy creating a master race of "Super Japanese" to take over the world...
