Wild card performance & multimedia artist PAUL McCARTHY upped the freak factor at this year's ART BASEL with his massive "Santa with Butt Plug" chocolate factory installation. Long a fan of employing viscous foodstuffs (ketchup, chocolate syrup, etc) in his avant-garde work, the LA-based artist expanded upon his original bronze sculpture of the same name that made its debut at this year's Basel fair in Switzerland by creating an edible edition (using Guittard premium chocolate, no less) of the holiday icon available for $100 a pop. Transforming the Maccarone gallery in NYC into a professional chocolate factory last month for his show “Peter Paul Chocolates: Edibles By Paul McCarthy” and forming the Peter Paul Chocolates, LLC in conjunction with master chocolatier Peter P Greweling of the Culinary Institute of America, McCarthy is on a mission to bring his dark & dirty Santa to the world and may even franchise the endeavor to ensure maximum exposure. While Basel Miami may be long over, holiday shoppers can still purchase editions in person at Maccarone Gallery in the West Village until the show closes on Dec 24th, or online by clicking HERE...
