DR ALBERT HOFMANN, father of the mind-altering drug LSD and the man who single-handedly enabled the defining consciousness movement of the 20th Century died of a heart attack at his home in Basel, Switzerland yesterday at the age of 102. The above portrait of Hofmann was painted by Supertouch’s own psychedelic guru ALEX GREY in honor of Hoffman’s 100th birthday in 2006. In 1938, the Swiss chemist discovered Lysergic Acid Diethylamide-25 accidentally while working in the lab and unknowingly became the drug’s first Read More

Roger Waters' Slick & Danny Boy-designed graffiti pig heads off to slaughter...

Checking in on the road home from COACHELLA, here's a quick look at the obligatory flying “Dark Side of the Pig" balloon painted by Supertouch buddies SLICK & DANNY BOY bearing slogans like "Don't Be Led to the Slaughter," "No Blood For Oil," and "Don't Build Walls," that floated through ROGER WATERS' moonlite Floyd set...

UPDATE: $10,000 REWARD FOR LOST PIG:
After being released during Waters' Coachella-closing set Sunday nite, it seems the pig du jour floated off into the horizon, never to be reclaimed. Now, Coachella festival organizer Bill Fold has offered a $10K reward for the graffiti'd oinker's return: "A pig got loose last night," said Fold, "We really like him and want him back.... It's a very emotional time for us." Anyone with information of the piggy's whereabouts or in possession of a convincing bootleg & a need for $10K can contact lostpig@coachella.com...

COACHELLA RECAP///ART IN THE DESERT…

Optimus Prime moonlights at Cirque du Soleil...

Aside from a lot of neo hippie-ish little installations throughout the festival grounds, the massive three-day concert that is COACHELLA offered little in the way of compelling artwork save for MIKE ROSS' monumental "Big Rig Jig." Constructed from two real semi rigs, the sculpture literally dominated the skyline, inadvertently paying homage to the legion of surly truck drivers who hauled in the event's equipment & musicians through 100+ degree temps...

Heavy flossin' at Casa Odom...

This just in from Supertouch's own DARREN "DR" ROMANELLI: looks like the LA LAKERS' superstar forward, #7 himself, LAMAR ODOM took delivery on his custom-made DRx Lakers' championship tribute jacket in time to rock it at Game 3 against the Denver Nuggets tomorrow. Let's just hope it's weatherproof enough to withstand the upcoming Purple Reign...

HONG KONG///”BANKSY ROBS HONG KONG” SELLS OUT…

The smell of sweat and money in Hong Kong...

We're not going to devote a lot of time and space to the unauthorized second-hand sale of consigned works that is the current "BANKSY ROBS HONG KONG" show presented by FABRIK CONTEMPORARY ART at the HONG KONG ARTS CENTER that opened last nite, but for the curious, here's a look at what Banksy's first organized foray into the Asian market looks like. Since the artist and his camp had no part in the exhibition, no new works were presented and the show consists mainly of pre-owned prints and other limited-edition serigraphs with few original pieces of art on display. Of particular interest, however, were some never-before-seen chunks of the warehouse installation Banksy painted for the afterparty of his 2002 "Existencilism" show at the 33 1/3 Gallery in LA that were later removed and preserved by an astute private collector. As of this writing, all works in the show had been spoken for and prices were as insane as any other Banksy sale, with some works reaching the $500,000 mark. HAVE A LOOK: Read More

OG streetwear homeboys Nigo & Takashi Murakami flex their street cred...

Love it or leave it, NIGO's LA branch of the legendary Tokyo streetwear brand BAPE (aka: A Bathing Ape)—the brand that launched a thousand imitators—opened for business on Melrose Ave this Thursday nite with a star-studded media frenzy of a debut party. Two years too late? Yep, but remember this is LA, Ed Hardy and Crooks & Castles are still "cool" brands here. HAVE A LOOK: Read More
