Skullphone’s art dumpster. Duchamp would be proud…
Like it or not, so-called “Street Art” is the undeniable visual currency of our times (at least until next month’s trend hits) and no self-respecting cultural institution would be complete without an obligatory show of the latest vandal-in-waiting. In the case of the extremely progressive RIVERSIDE ART MUSEUM (who hosted a Barry McGee exhibit in April) that art vandal is none other than the Southland’s notorious billboard hijacker SKULLPHONE whose iconic skull & vintage cellphone iconography has been leering at hapless LA commuters and Blackberry slaves from all corners of the city for the past several years. Enshrining his street-level postering and stickering efforts in a museum setting by bringing actual objects he’s “customized” into the gallery makes this show particularly noteworthy, and the exhibition highlights include actual LA parking meters, dumpsters, gas pumps, and even a public bathroom all adorned with his illegal imagery. HAVE A LOOK:

Only problem with this genre is that most of the groupies are dudes…
