DENVER///POLITIKS///THE "MANIFEST HOPE" OBAMA ART SHOW
Proving definitively that you can indeed have an art show about anything these days, some of our favorite artists packed up their fingerpaints and #2 pencils and headed out to Denver this week where the "Manifest Hope" art show set up camp during the DNC in honor of our presumptive Democratic savior, BARACK OBAMA. Including original works by over 100 artists including SHEPARD FAIREY, RON ENGLISH, MAYA HAYUK, THE DATE FARMERS, DAVE CHOE, SAM FLORES, EMEK, CHRIS PASTRAS, EVAN HEACOX, ANDY HOWELL, and GARY BASEMAN, the show featured some amazing, pretty amazing, not-so-amazing, kinda crappy, and lotsa downright bad art about Obama. But hey, unlike his "honorable" Republican opponent, at least Barry's face looks good on a canvas, regardless of how poorly its rendered. Needless to say, the ANDENKEN GALLERY was the after-hours place to be for Denver-bound hipsters and young politicos looking to score with an outta town downtown chick at the four day "anything goes" event. The show was not without its share of female celeb sightings, either, as comedian SARAH SILVERMAN stopped in to do a stand-up set, and actress/singer ZOOEY DESCHANEL gave an impromptu concert with secret crush Shepard Fairey's Obama painting as a backdrop.
