Turntabilism fans who haven’t yet caught CUT CHEMIST & DJ SHADOW’s amazing live “Hard Sell” show have exactly 12 days and seven tour dates left to catch up on one of the best live events of the year. Looking to break open the traditional DJ performance, the pair teamed up with the idea to perform live mixes using only vintage, traditionally pressed 45’s to create their impromptu soundscapes. Sequenced on an array of eight turntables fed through four mixers and an effects box or guitar pedal, the resulting “songs”—accompanied by an eye-popping image reel—are an incredible mash-up of genres, tempos, and eras, some never to be replicated again. Click HERE to check out the remaining tour dates. And, for fans looking to take home more than a T-shirt the just-released Hard Sell JUKE-BOT vinyl toy designed by English street artist PAUL INSECT and produced in a limited run of 500 units is available at the shows and in limited quantities online. Says Shadow of the toy: “We conceived it as a throwback to a pre-digital era. There’s something about a jukebox doing battle with pesky iPods that seems to resonate with people. It’s a kind of protest against the technology rat-race, particularly where music is concerned.” HAVE A LOOK:

Titled “Siren,” the piece is made of solid 18K gold and cost nearly $3 million USD to fabricate, with nearly all the cost going to the price of gold. It is the largest solid gold sculpture made since ancient Egypt.
TEXAS///MUSIC///LOST AT THE AUSTIN CITY LIMITS FESTIVAL

Just got back from a very long, lost weekend in Austin at LANCE ARMSTRONG’s epic (and ridiculously underrated) AUSTIN CITY LIMITS FESTIVAL, where 40,000+ revelers gathered for three days of incredible music, beer, and BBQ. With a lineup featuring over 140 bands including ROBERT PLANT & ALISON KRAUSS, BECK, FOO FIGHTERS, THE BLACK KEYS, NERD, THE MARS VOLTA, SHARON JONES & THE DAP KINGS, NEKO CASE, MGMT, HOT CHIP, and CSS, performing on multiple stages, the sun-drenched sonic rendezvous was only enhanced by the unparalleled coolness of the mostly Austinite crowd that still appreciates rock ‘n’ roll on a level rarely seen outside of Europe.
NEWS///STREET LIFE///BANKSY PAINTS NEW ORLEANS AS KATRINA MEMORIAL

One wouldn’t normally expect to find the world’s most Googled street artist lurking among the ruins of the lower ninth ward in NEW ORLEANS, but that’s just where renegade stencil artist BANKSY has been holed up for the past week, covering the desiccated city with art to commemorate the anniversary of KATRINA, the hurricane that killed 1800 people when it struck the coastal city in 2005. Said Banksy of the operation, “Three years after Katrina I wanted to make a statement
