NYC///THE NIKE SPORTSWEAR STORE OPENING BLOWOUT
Last week in NYC marked the opening of the new NIKE SPORTSWEAR boutique at 21 Mercer in SoHo and, true to form, the blowout—appropriately titled "212"—was legendary (trust us, we were there). Opening up with a banging performance from the SOUL TIGERS drum corps (who played the US Open two days later), Nike ambassador SPIKE LEE took the mike to MC the store's debut, joined by Nike athletes ROGER FEDERER, SERENA WILLIAMS, SMUSH PARKER, MARIA SHARAPOVA, and OMEKA OKENFOR. The obsessive sneakerhead DJ contingent was well represented by fanatics CLARK KENT, JUST BLAZE, and DJ CLUE, while super producer MARK RONSON came out of self-imposed "DJ retirement" to rock vintage sounds of NYC for the masses. Food was provided NYC baseball stadium-style and Nathan's hot dog eating champs TAKERU KOBAYASHI and JOEY CHESTNUT did their best to scarf down a couple dozen dogs apiece. Of course, the downtown scene was repped in full with musicians, artists, actors, and hipsters like Q-TIP, KAWS, ERIC ELMS, SCOTT CAMPBELL, JUSTIN THEROUX, ERIK FOSS, CHRIS "DAZE" ELLIS, NATE LOWMAN, LEO FITZPATRICK, CLAW MONEY, TODD JORDAN, KATIE PERRY, DJ MILO, and TODD JAMES (aka: REAS), among others turning out in force to take a peek at the vintage gymnasium-themed space.
