ACTIVISION DEBUTS ULTRA-REALISTIC (AND CREEPY) NEW HUMAN ANIMATION TECH

March 28, 2013  |  Tech  |  Comments Off

Game maker Activision has debuted what it claims is the "most advanced and realistic human animation technology to date" with this new video demo released yesterday at the annual Game Development Conference. The software is called "next-generation character rendering." Too bad they couldn't have put it to use "rendering" a less creepy "character" (and given it some better dialogue)...

THROWBACK THURSDAY: DAVID BAILEY PHOTOGRAPHS THE BEATLES, 1965

March 28, 2013  |  art  |  Comments Off

1965_1~1

One of the Beatles' most trusted personal photographers, David Bailey had a front row seat for some of the most epic moments in rock history, but few were as beautiful as this intimate & elegant 1965 photo session with just John Lennon & Paul McCartney in London. The suits and haircuts are immaculate and timeless, and the creative duo—who were then still close friends and collaborators just entering the peak of their careers—could teach the current generation of hipsters volumes about effortless style... Strange & unexpected indeed. The full album is currently streaming in advance of the release, listen below:

ESSENTIAL READING: AN INTERVIEW WITH LARRY GAGOSIAN

March 27, 2013  |  art, Culture  |  Comments Off

**LGOGO342354523

Love him or hate him, Larry Gagosian is easily the single most important force in the modern art world and a fascinating character to the core. His near unshakable media silence almost guarantees he'll be taking his storied trove of epic tales (including many with his now legendary friend Jean-Michel Basquiat) to the grave unheard. Luckily he sat down with fellow art world heavy Peter Brant late last year for a great Interview Magazine talk that—if you weren't paying attention—was easily missed, but shouldn't be overlooked: Read More

READ: “THE NEW SAO PAULO” IN THE NY TIMES’ T MAGAZINE

March 27, 2013  |  art, Graffiti, Street Art  |  Comments Off

***SPAUL747463673

Check out the great piece in the recent NY Times T Magazine about Sao Paulo's recent urban cultural renaissance with a nice reference to Supertouch family Os Gemeos:

"...a so-called clean city law approved in 2006 prohibited outdoor advertising, suddenly giving São Paulo’s whitewashed buildings a strangely unsullied look, and allowing massive murals by street artists to occupy prominent swaths of the skyline. The dreamy, colorful paintings of the brothers Otávio and Gustavo Pandolfo, graffiti aces who work under the name Os Gêmeos (The Twins), offer prominent examples of this trend, while more subtle street murals like the black line drawings on white facades by Fabiano Gonper provide a cerebral critique of the scramble for wealth and power obsessing many in São Paulo." warhol-brillo-seat-1-630x501

An official collab between Quinze & Milan and The Andy Warhol Foundation, these awesome, squishy Brillo Box seats make the artist's original groundbreaking (and then-controversial) art pieces from 1964 way cooler by making them both affordable, and use-able.
