AI WEIWEI DISCUSSES HIS NEW COVER ART FOR TIME MAGAZINE’S CHINA ISSUE
When Time Magazine made its feature “How China Sees The World” the cover story of this week’s issue, it chose controversial Chinese dissident artist Ai WeiWei to create the amazing image accompanying it. Time’s Managing Editor Rick Stengel called the image in support of the article exploring the Communist nation’s newfound power and influence a work of “artistic supremacy,” adding that for Ai Weiwei the image is an “acknowledgment of the country’s centrality in the world while at the same time challenging China’s leaders to make the future a freer and more democratic one.” In this video interview, WeiWei discusses his thoughts on China and the complex symbolism of the image he created in relation to his views on the country that recently imprisoned him for his art.
