FIRST LOOK | OS GEMEOS: “A OPERA DA LUA” AT GALERIA FORTES VILACA, BRASIL
Identical twin brothers Otavio & Gustava Pandolfo, otherwise known collectively as Os Gemeos, rose from the backstreets of Sao Paulo to become the foremost street artists of their generation, elevating the medium to new heights in the process. Returning to their hometown last weekend during World Cup for their first solo exhibition in Sao Paulo in years at the venerable Galeria Fortes Vilaca.
Ambitiously-titled A Opera da Lua (“The Moon Opera”), the 39-year-old duo created an immersive new environmental installation around the theme, featuring a vast array of new paintings, sculptures, and a 3D video installation populated by their signature yellow characters commingling in scenes of fantasy and everyday life. Together, the duo are a true force of nature with an almost unparalleled work ethic, evidenced by the top-to-bottom approach to the show’s installation which saw no surface left untouched from the ceiling to the floor in an effort to create a truly escapist experience for their viewers.
