STREET LIFE | MERVE BERKMAN DRAWS ATTENTION TO THE PLIGHT OF SYRIAN REFUGEES
This photo of a barefoot Syrian mother & child refuge was taken and pasted by Merve Berkman on a wall in Istanbul where many homeless immigrants usually sit. Hundreds of thousands of Syrians have made their way to Istanbul in the midst of the current political & humanitarian crisis but the Turkish government is beginning to apply sanctions. This image draws attention to their plight. As the artist, Merve, observes, “An image is sometimes more powerful than the actual thing.” [C/O Martha Cooper]
