KAWS‘ ubiquitous XX-eyed skeleton “Companion” character has become an indelible feature of the modern visual landscape, appearing everywhere from all manner of products on store shelves and magazine covers to art galleries & even the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade. In recent years, seemingly in an effort to cement their dominance, the artist known to friends as Brian Donnelley has taken to creating colossal 15-foot-tall wood & fiberglass sculptures and dispatching them around the world to act as his pop cultural foot soldiers. Their latest appearance comes on the grounds of the esteemed Yorkshire Sculpture Park in West Bretton, UK, where they accompany the forthcoming museum exhibition of his work at the adjacent Longside Gallery opening to the public on February 6th. And, as if on cue, England’s temperate climate bestowed the gift of a fresh snowfall immediately upon the goliaths’ installation, heightening the drama of their arrival.
