BARCELONA///FIRST LOOK: ERIC WHITE’S “ECLECTICISMO: VIRTUD O DEFECTO?” AT IGUAPOP GALLERY

Eric White's new works are a visual force to be reckoned with...

Superhuman painting talent ERIC WHITE brought his unique brand of cinematic surrealism to the sunny climes of Barcelona where his solo show of new work “Eclecticismo: Virtud o Defecto?” (Eclecticism: Virtue or Defect?) opened alongside a concurrent exhibition by art buddy Gomez Bueno at IGUAPOP GALLERY last weekend. Consisting of seven brand new 24" x 24" paintings (save for a lone 36" x 36" exception) and two recent large scale pieces, the majority of the show is divided between White's recent "windows" theme and his unique "photo negative" painting effect whereby the Michigan native painstakingly renders portraits in a film negative colorshceme that translate to perfectly accurate color versions when viewed as inversions. The unusual imagery is a true testament to Mr White's rendering prowess considering that the accuracy of his color positives is never tested until the last brushstroke on the negative has been laid (see below for an example). Art Basel saw Ryden and White at the top of their game...

Having seen an astounding array of high quality offerings at this year's ART BASEL, we still can't help but marvel at the insane quality of the new work put forth by Supertouch's own resident modern old masters MARK RYDEN and ERIC WHITE. Debuting the centerpiece of his forthcoming Tokyo solo show opening in February, Ryden showed off the 7' wide oil painting "Sophia's Bubbles," announcing a new, more simple style and palette in the process. Meanwhile, master of figurative detail Eric White continued his "Psychology of Interiors" series of oil paintings to great success with five amazing new dreamscapes. HAVE A LOOK: Read More

Eric White (top center) and Jesse Leyva believe the children are our future...

The BEAUTIFUL LOSERS x NIKE SPORTSWEAR official "Make Something!" creative workshop series designed to provide cutting-edge art instruction to disadvantaged urban youth in conjunction with the "Beautiful Losers" international film debut wrapped up its month long run in NYC last weekend with two blowout four-hour seminars: Painting with ERIC WHITE, and sneaker design with JESSE LEYVA. Schooling a diverse array of young urban students on the finer points of putting brush to canvas, Mr White distilled his years of fine art experience into a powerful tutorial that sent the students home with a greatly enhanced skill set and newfound desire to create art with a tool other than a spray paint can. Meanwhile, Nike's own resident footwear magician Jesse Leyva guided a full house of dedicated young sneakerheads through the finer points of staying fresh-to-death on the blank canvas of a pair of all-white AF1s. Currently, the West Coast "Make Something!" workshop series has just gotten underway in San Francisco and Los Angeles with classes running through early September led by a diverse array of artists including ED TEMPLETON, MISTER CARTOON, GEOFF McFETRIDGE, CLARE ROJAS, ANDREW JEFFREY WRIGHT, and THOMAS CAMPBELL, among others.
