We love seeing untouched vintage graffiti, and this sighting of a large piece by Parisian street artist FAFI and her then-boyfriend TILT on the wall in a DEATH VALLEY ghost town is a welcome find…

LONDON///POP LIFE///DOWN N’ DIRTY AT INSA’S “DIRTY CASH II” PARTY…
August 6th, 2008As penance for the over-the-top blinged out art extravaganza that was his “Dirty Cash” show at the FLAWLESS GALLERY last month, London street sniper (and avowed foot fetishist) INSA threw a decidedly more low-rent but heavily alcohol-soaked East End bash for 500 of his closest friends last week replete with new art, free T-shirts, dancing girls, heavy doses of the aforementioned alcohol, and music by DJ ACYDE, KAM, and BURAKA SOM SISTEMA. Few in attendance are able to actually recall the night’s proceedings, a sure sign that the event was indeed a success. HAVE A LOOK: Read the rest of this entry »
SF///STREET LIFE///LOVE ‘N’ HAIGHT WITH DOZE GREEN…
August 4th, 2008
Even Doze’s mecha-bot can’t stand the smell of the Lower Haight…
Dropping in on the ever-frigid Bay Area (where summer doesn’t officially start till October and lasts exactly three weeks) for a millisecond, it’s good to see our favorite piece from DOZE GREEN is still livin large in the LOWER HAIGHT, even if our boy Doze is now officially a citizen of the world as he traverses the globe on the never-ending spiritual road trip that is his career. HONG KONG///OPENINGS///NYC GRAFFITI LEGEND ERIC HAZE COMES “FULL CIRCLE”…
July 31st, 2008
Haze delivers the goods in HK and proves that a crisp pair of denim and some nice white kix never go outta style…
OG Supertouch homie, downtown NYC graffiti/graphic art legend, streetwear impresario and speed bike aficionado ERIC HAZE marks his full-force return to his 1980s fine/Pop Art roots with a massive solo show of new paintings, drawings, and screenprints at MoCA CHINA in Hong Kong this month. Coinciding with the 47-year-old artist’s relocation to his spiritual homeland of New York after an extended stint in the full sun of LA, the exhibition finds our man employing the iconic linestyle evident in his seminal ’80s and ’90s graphic design for bands like Public Enemy, The Beastie Boys, and LL Cool J to brands like Def Jam, X-Girl, Tommy Boy, and MTV, albeit with a distinctly loose approach that softens and abstracts the resulting imagery, alluding to his improvisational graffiti linework in the process. Paying homage to his longtime and pioneering involvement in the streetwear industry, Haze has created a special clothing line with 55DSL available in a custom pop up shop within the show. BARCELONA///STREET LIFE///ON THE WALL WITH FEFE TALAVERA…
July 31st, 2008
Luckily, a bikini and a can of paint is all Ms. Talavera (shown here with writing partner Debens) needs to pop some eyeballs …
Since completing her collaborative tour de force collaborative “Omega Bridge” art show with art buddy DOZE GREEN in Amsterdam last month, Brasilian painter and street artist FEFE TALAVERA has been in constant motion across several countries, leaving her distinctly future primitive markings on the city walls she passes through on the way. We catch up with her in Barcelona where she just wrapped up this big blue burner with painting buddy DEBENS. HAVE A LOOK (beware, potentially NSFW): Read the rest of this entry »
NYC///STREET LIFE///JUDITH SUPINE’S EAST RIVER ART ATTACK…
July 28th, 2008
Mr Supine’s free art floatie steers away from New Jersey…
NYC’s (well, Brooklyn, actually) chartreuse-loving street anonymous art phantom JUDITH SUPINE has reprised his last summer’s attack on the vaguely toxic East River by sending yet another color-screaming art floatie out to sea this weekend. No word yet as to whose hands the diving beauties ultimately ended up in, but one thing’s for sure, it’ll probably turn up in some high-end street art auction sooner than later. SF///STREET LIFE///ON THE WALL WITH SWOON…
July 23rd, 2008SPAIN///STREET LIFE///JR’s “THE GROOVES OF THE CITY” PROJECT…
July 22nd, 2008
Time keeps on slippin into the future…
Hot off his massive installation at England’s TATE MODERN and his general huge-scale bombing of London, French photographer and street artist JR has just completed his latest epic project, “Los Surcos de la Ciudad” (“The Grooves of the City”) in Spain. Seeking to tell the tale of the ancient Spanish Mediterranean port city of Cartagena in the region of Murcia through the faces of its oldest residents, the 25-year-old artist spent three days photographing the city’s elders and then transferring the giant-sized portraits onto the city’s walls both new and old and in various states of decomposition. Completed in time for the city’s 14th annual The Sea Music Festival, the grand narrative project helps reaffirm JR’s assertion that “the facades and walls with all their cracks and grooves can tell the story of a city” and so too can its inhabitants. BOSTON///POPAGANDA///RON ENGLISH’S “ABRAHAM OBAMA” CONTROVERSY…
July 15th, 2008
Looks like being considered a Muslim is the least of Barack’s 99 problems now…
It seems that Supertouch’s own RON ENGLISH can’t catch a break. After gifting the residents of Boston’s South End with a 100 foot long rainbow “Abraham Obama” wheatpaste poster mural depicting the image of presidential hopeful BARACK OBAMA melded with the portrait of America’s 16th president, the city’s residents are crying for its removal. Not on political or even aesthetic grounds—though the installation has polarized viewers on both topics—but for the hundreds of illegal posters that have since popped up on walls around the city. Installed legally to commemorate the opening of Boston’s GALLERY XIV political art show “A Politic,” it seems our resident Popagandist made plentiful black & white copies of his hybrid portrait available free of charge to the show’s attendees who have since taken it upon themselves to plaster the images on nearly every flat vertical surface around town. With the gallery fielding angry calls from the Mayor’s office and MSNBC reporting nationally on the event, it seems young Abe’s days might be numbered. Enjoy it while you can.
