litttlebearr.jpg Otaku MARK RYDEN fans got a much-needed dose of face time with their art idol in Tokyo last Saturday nite when his hotly anticipated new "Snow Yak Show" debuted at TOMIO KOYAMA GALLERY. In attendance were longtime Ryden brothers-in-arms TIM BISKUP and GARY BASEMAN who helped their bearded elder celebrate in true snow yak style replete with fuzzy white headgear and ice cold hearts to boot. The sold out show of new oil paintings and drawings represents a stark aesthetic departure for the artist who leaves behind his trademark meat-laden painting style and ornate frames behind with this collection of minimalist new work.

T9G, Marion Peck, Mark Ryden, and Tim Biskup are all nerds...

Masters of vinyl toydom TIM BISKUP and Tokyo's T9G teamed up to blow minds of Japanese collectors with their "T x T Project" of collaborative vinyl toys and new paintings from Mr Biskup that opened last weekend at STITCH GALLERY. Cobbling together new toys mad scientist style using the best parts (giblets included) from their own respective signature artist toys, the dynamic duo gave frenzied onlookers a glimpse of how cool the modern world of vinyl toys could be if places like Kid Robot didn't actually exist. Needless to say, the pair's legion of devoted fanboys and girls lined up for blocks to get a glimpse at the neon colored spectacle and snatch up newly released colorways of the pair's new collaborative production toy "Rangeas" which sold out instantaneously. Also of note was the sneek peek look at the new prototype of T9G's version of Tim Biskup's iconic "Helper" toy set to be released this spring. HAVE A LOOK: Read More

LONDON///TIM BISKUP AT THE LAZARIDES “SHUT DOWN” PARTY

After buying a new Banksy piece, Tim Biskup found time to make nice with the ladies...

The art "Extravaganza" event that was originally scheduled to take place at the now infamous LAZARIDES GALLERY in London last week during the throes of the FRIEZE ART FAIR was instead turned into the "Shut Down Show" after the local authorities canned STEVE LAZARIDES' original setup over gambling concerns. Turns out Laz's grand plan to sell 250 tickets at £5,000 GBP each for the event—which guaranteed every participant a 1-in-10 chance of winning an original piece of art from the gallerist's stable of artists including Miranda Donovan and Faile and included a raffle of an original BANKSY oil painting valued at more than £300,000 GBP—looked more like a mini casino operation to the gambling commission than a proper art show. Instead, Lazarides stepped to the plate and converted the original fete into an equally impressive group show of art by ANTHONY MICALLEF, INVADER, PAUL INSECT, and JONATHAN YEO, to name a few, that also included several vintage works by Banksy, including the "corrupted" oil painting that was to serve as the centerpiece of the raffle. While everyone who bought tickets for the original party was given a full refund and a piece of free artwork for their trouble, the new show did include a "Gnome Bowling" game whereby anyone knocking down a set of gnome bowling pins received a piece of free art, a less-than-subtle F.U. to the gambling commission if there ever was one. Of course, our man TIM BISKUP was on the scene to take in the spread, pick up on the ladies, and even DJ'd the afterparty side-by-side with Supertouch homie ACYDE at SoHo HOUSE where show attendees like DENNIS HOPPER tore it up late into the foggy eve. PARIS///FIRST LOOK: TIM BISKUP’S “O/S OPERATING SYSTEM” AT ADDICT GALERIE

Only in Paris does Mr Biskup dare break out the purple shirt...

LA's resident cartoon Pop artist turned neo-cubist, TIM BISKUP unveiled a new approach to his usual painting style when he debuted a series of paintings displayed on integrated custom built pedestals in a series called "O/S Operating System" at ADDICT GALERIE in Paris late last week. Each of the twelve pieces in the exhibition are self contained units which include an original painting packed into its own shipping crate along with an elaborate pedestal that can be assembled using parts that come inside the crate as well as the crate itself. These "systems," as the artist calls them, constitute a fusion of Biskup's aesthetic style and his conceptual theories. The pieces are intended to represent the interconnection between art itself and the peripheral elements that allow it to exist. As a metaphor, the "systems" ask the question of weather the peripheral elements actually add to or distract from the artwork being presented. Also available at the exhibition—as somewhat of an unintentional souvenir of the artist's older painting style—is a large scale 30-color serigraph of Biskup's "Tree Of Life" painting originally created as the cover of "American Cyclops," a catalog of artwork from an exhibition of the same name that took place at Iguapop Gallery in Barcelona in July of 2006.
