Having provided the main image for the OBAMA campaign now recognized around the world, the influence of street & graphic artist SHEPARD FAIREY cannot be overstated. Having transcended the traditional boundaries of his chosen medium to create an image that united and inspired voters (and the presidential candidate himself) across lines of class, race, gender, and party, Fairey has achieved a truly monumental task in this race and inspired a generation of young people to become politically active in the process. A key element to the success of Obama's visual campaign was Fairey's mostly illegal dissemination tactics of wheatpasting posters on private and public property without permission, a sweet little twist in the side of the political machine that proved the artist's steadfast adherence to his streetwise principals remained intact. In doing so, he single-handedly inspired a nation of supporters to do the same and the Obama campaign has seen an outpouring of viral aesthetic support at a level never before realized by a political candidate. On the eve of tomorrow's presidential election, we spoke with Shepard about the relevance of his work for Obama and his thoughts on the shape of political things to come.Read More
Tomorrow's Super Tuesday, and LA's reigning sneaker spot UNDFTD has posted GEOFF McFETRIDGE's graphic homage to OBAMA as part of their ongoing billboard art project just in time to help turn out the faithful at the polls. If the image looks familiar, it's because you might have seen the earlier incarnation released as a campaign fundraising T-shirt a few months back. HAVE A LOOK: Read More

To commemorate his groundbreaking show in Paris, artist TOM SACHS has released a special must-have T-shirt supporting the OBAMA campaign in its final stretch as we approach the election next week. Available only at Parisian retail palace COLETTE, the shirt features a rendering of Sachs' Hello Kitty Eiffel Tower installation with the words "OBAMA 08" on the back. Just the thought of the French walking around Paris with an American (would-be) president's name on their backs makes a tear drop our eyes...
And, just to add fuel to the fire of our last headline, here's a couple new pro–OBAMA shirts just in time for the final stretch by Supertouch buddies THE COBRASNAKE (via RVCA) and TIM BISKUP (via GAMAGO). Just remember, don't wear em to vote!...
Following his commissioned poster designs for the OBAMA Campaign's VOTE FOR CHANGE initiative last month, THUNDERDOG STUDIOS head designer TRISTAN EATON has put his energy into a last minute push for the Democratic contender with a new campaign poster and ballot box character. Designed as a reminder for registered voters to actually show up and cast their ballot for Obama on November 4th, the poster's image of Barack is made up entirely of icons relevant to his personal history and political messaging, while the new ballot box character is a downloadable paper cut out figure that fans can assemble and leave in their cubicle as a daily voting reminder. And, just for fun, Eaton has customized a TRACKSTAR fixed gear bike with his Obama graphics, which will be sold to generate funds for the campaign in its final week. All political posters and materials are available at the dedicated THUNDERVOTE.COM site. HAVE A LOOK: Read More
With just two weeks left until the presidential election, the well-intentioned "Sketch For Change" eBay auction featuring original OBAMA-themed artwork by TIM BISKUP, JAMES JEAN, BOB DOB, AMANDA VISSELL, and GARY BASEMAN, among others, might be a little late in the game, but with 21 pieces of artwork up for grabs (all profits are donated to Obama's campaign), it's a great way to grab an affordable piece of tax-deductible art without the guilt. RON ENGLISH's optically-challenging rendition of BARACK OBAMA as his self-professed political hero ABRAHAM LINCOLN has appeared across walls in the major urban centers of this great nation throughout the year's campaign, and now Mr. English is offering six hand-painted fine art renditions of the image to benefit Obama's campaign as it makes its final push towards election day. Available in six individual colorways, the 24" x 36" canvases are all handpainted to resemble screenprinted multiples and are available for $10K each via our friends at the JONATHAN LEVINE GALLERY. The sale of these works will enable English to spread fund the production and placement of more Abraham Obama wheatpaste posters throughout the city. Aside from a tax write-off, what could be better when buying art than knowing the sale price will be funding political vandalism throughout our nation's urban metropoli?

A week after the DNC wrapped in snow-white Denver, CO, we bring you a first look at the mugshot from SHEPARD FAIREY's arrest on August 25 for "interference with police authority and posting unauthorized posters." Taking a break from his duties hosting the pro-Obama "Manifest Hope" art show, Shep was busy plastering downtown Denver with his signature Obama posters when cops in full riot gear and guns drawn reportedly shouted “Get on the fucking ground or we’re going to kick you in the fucking head!” Fairey and his crew were then zip-tied, accused of being "anarchists" for wearing all-black outfits, and led to jail where he spent 15 hours eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and giving each other body cavity searches before pleading out to the police interference charge with six months unsupervised probation and a $100 fine. Hopefully, as First Artist under an Obama administration, Fairey and his ilk will have diplomatic street immunity for at least four years. HAVE A LOOK: Read More
